The characteristics of three castings
The characteristics of three castings
Cast steel is a kind of alloy, it sees iron and carbon as the main elements, carbon content is 0-2%. Cast steel is divided into cast carbon steel,
low alloy steel casting and special steel casting 3 classes. The characteristics of these three kinds of cast steel are as follows:
1. Alloy steel refined for special needs is special steel casting, with a variety of kinds. It usually contains one or more of the high amount of alloy elements, in order to achieve a particular performance. For example, high manganese steel containing 12% ~ 15% manganese has impact wear resistance, it can be used as mining machinery, engineering machinery wear parts. Steel-castings with chrome or nickel as the main alloying elements can be used as chemical industry valve, pump, container, or large-capacity power plant turbine casing under the condition of corrosion or above 650 ℃ high temperature.
2. Cast carbon steel is a kind of cast steel in which carbon is the main alloying element and it also contains small amounts of other elements. Carbon content less than 0.2% is casting low carbon steel, casting medium carbon steel containis 0.2% ~ 0.5% carbon, carbon content more than 0.5% is casting high carbon steel. With the increase of carbon content, the intensity and hardness of casting carbon steel increase. Casting carbon steel has high strength, plasticity and toughness, low cost. It is uesd to make high load of parts in heavy machinery, such as rolling mill frame and hydraulic base. It is also used to make large force parts and withstand impact parts in railway vehicles, such as bolster, side frame, wheels and couplers, etc.
3. Cast steel containing the alloying elements such as manganese, chromium, copper is low alloy steel casting. Alloying elements are generally less than 5%, with a larger impact toughness. You can get better mechanical properties by heat treatment. Casting low alloy steel has a better performance than carbon steel, it can reduce the parts quality and improve the service life.
